Host City - Milan

MILAN, THE CONFERENCE LOCATION

Milan is the second-largest city in Italy and the capital of Lombardy as well as of the province of Milan. The city proper has a population of about 1.3 million, while its urban area is the 5th largest in EU and the largest in Italy with an estimated population of over 4.3 million.

It is the main industrial, commercial and financial centre of Italy.

Its business district hosts the Italian Stock Exchange and the headquarters of the largest national banks and multinational companies. The city is recognized as a major world fashion and design capital, and it has thus been ranked by GaWC as an Alpha world city in 2010, as well as the 42nd most important global city.

Thanks to its important museums, theatres and landmarks (including Santa Maria delle Grazie, decorated with Leonardo da Vinci paintings, a UNESCO World Heritage Site) Milan attracts 2 million annual visitors.

It hosts numerous cultural institutions and universities, including Bocconi University, which ranks 5th among European Business Schools.
The city is also well-known for several international events and fairs and will host the 2015 Universal Exposition. For detailed information about Milan please visit: http://www.turismo.milano.it

EXPO 2015, taking place in Milan from May to October

Milan will be the hosting city of EXPO and all eyes of the world will be focused on it.

Each Expo has a universal theme and is held in an area which has been masterminded as a place of exchange and encounter to promote a unique experience for participants and visitors who discover and experiment with the theme. More than displaying major technological novelties the Expo’s role is oriented towards interpreting the collective challenges to which mankind is asked to respond. The great issues of this edition are sustainable development, the frontiers of science and technology, a world of opportunities for promotion and communication.

Expo 2015 will be an extraordinary universal event displaying tradition, creativity and innovation in the business of food. It will bring together many themes that have already been handled by this event in the past, and set them out a new light of new global possibilities whose common core is the idea that everyone on the planet should have access to food that is healthy, safe and sufficient.
